Our perception is shaped by our origins. Everyone's outlook and approach to life is based on their past. With each person living their personal experiences, everyone sees life through a unique lens. We’re discovering connections, observing details, and creating memories.
Emotions
Behind every good picture, there’s something that gives it life. Composition, lighting, and exposure aside, a photo should instantly evoke emotion. It might be the simple smile of a child discovering their love for vanilla ice cream, it might be the gaze of a newlywed couple or the sun shining through the leaves of a tree in an autumn sunset, gently shedding warm soft light onto your skin. Emotion is everywhere, you just need to know where to look.
Design
A couple years ago I attended documentary photographer and all round nice guy, Dotan Saguy's workshop. He explained his vision and the rules he applied to his photography. I found it practical to use his approach in my own work. One of the key elements was design in photography. Something that is inherent to the art itself and contains such elements as balance, rhythm, movement, emphasis, and unity. I combine all of these elements with my own creative perspective, to create memorable images.
